Gryphon hockey men nipped by Ridgebacks in shootout
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons suffered a 3-2 loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in a shootout in OUA men’s hockey preseason play Thursday at the Gryphon Centre.
The Gryphs had opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the second minute of the second period, the game’s only goal scored before the third period.

Ontario Tech pulled even with a power-play goal of its own early in the third and then shot ahead with an even-strength goal just over three minutes later.
The Gryphs knotted the score again 28 seconds after the Ridgebacks had taken the lead.
Connor Bramwell and Zachary Roberts scored for the Gryphs while assists went to Lucas Chiodo, Giordano Finoro and Ted McGeen.
Jack Patterson and J.C. Thivierge connected in regulation time for Ontario Tech while Austin Eastman assisted on both goals and Matthew Barron had one assist.
The teams each took 26 shots prior to the shootout.
Colton Incze and Gabe Mollot-Hill split time in net for the Gryphs. Incze had 19 saves in almost 55 minutes and Mollot-Hill had five in just over 15 minutes.
Michael Bullion went the distance in the Ontario Tech net and had 24 saves.
The result leaves Guelph with a win and a shootout loss in its preseason. The Gryphs have two more games to go before the start of their regular season as they’re to host the Nipissing Lakers Monday at 2 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre and play the Ryerson Rams in Toronto next Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Gryphs are to open their season Nov. 4 when they’re to host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Gryphon Centre at 7:30 p.m.
