Gryphon hockey men yield first 3 goals, lose to Windsor

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered the first three goals of the game as they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Windsor Lancers in OUA men’s hockey play Saturday night at the Gryphon Centre.

Windsor scored the only goal of the first period and led 3-1 after the second before extending that lead with a goal four and a half minutes into the third. The Gryphs came back with a pair of goals by Cody Thompson to get the gap down to a single goal before the Lancers added an empty-netter to complete the scoring.

Trevor Morbeck scored the other goal for the Gryphs while single assists were given to Manny Gialedakis, Patrick Kudla, Scott Simmonds, Todd Winder and Mathieu Henderson.

Brennan Feasey had a goal and two assists for Windsor while the other goals were scored by Ian Parker, Jake Brown, Nathan Veres and Eric Palazzolo. Ben Assad, Palazzolo, Ryan Taylor, Kody Gagnon, Konner Haas and Ryan Shaw each had one assist.

The Gryphs outshot Windsor 31-25 and went 1-for-5 on their power play while holding the Lancers scoreless on six power plays.

Andrew Masters was in net for the Gryphs for the loss while Jonathan Reinhart was in net for the win for Windsor.

The result leaves both the Gryphs and Windsor at 2-3-1.

The Gryphs are to play their third consecutive home game Thursday when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues (2-3-0) at the Gryphon Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
