Gryphon hockey women edge Carleton in preseason play

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons picked up their first win of the OUA women’s hockey preseason Friday when they edged the Carleton Ravens 2-1 at the Gryphon Centre.

Rookie Madison Melo struck for both Gryphon goals.

The win followed three preseason setbacks for the Gryphs while the Ravens have one win in seven preseason matches.

The Gryphs are to host the Laurentian Voyageurs in a preseason outing Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.

Guelph is to have two more preseason games after Sunday’s match before opening their regular season Oct. 19 with a game against the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Waterloo Recreation Complex.
