
Gryphon hockey women edged by Brock in OT
ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered a goal 3:23 into overtime as they were edged 2-1 by the Brock Badgers in OUA women’s hockey play Saturday at the Canada Games arena.
After a scoreless first period, the teams scored once each in the second before a scoreless third. The second-period goals came 2:26 apart early in the period.
Brock Badgers 2 Guelph Gryphons 1 (OT)
Mayla Mayer scored the game’s first goal for the Gryphs while Tiana Faccio had an assist.
Mishayla Christensen and Kaitlyn Colonna each had a goal for Brock while assists went to Catriona Cormier and Marin Green.
The Gryphs outshot the Badgers 28-23.
Kathryn Raymond had 21 saves in the Guelph net while Brock’s Tiffany Hsu had 27 saves.
Both teams were scoreless on a single power play.
The result leaves the Gryphs at 0-1-1-0 and Brock at 1-1-0-0.
The game was the first of four consecutive road games for the locals. They’re to play the Queen’s Gaels at Kingston Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Oshawa Saturday at 3 p.m. and the Western Mustangs at London Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
