
Gryphon hockey women edged by Laurier in preseason match
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered a goal 29 seconds into overtime as they were edged 3-2 by the Laurier Golden Hawks in OUA women’s preseason hockey play Wednesday night at the Gryphon Centre.
Laurier led 2-1 at the end of the second period following a scoreless first period. The Gryphs forced the overtime with the lone goal of the third.
Jaime Magoffin and Maya Graham had the goals for Guelph while assists were awarded to Rylee Davison, Avery Peer and Chihiro Suzuki.
Claire Robinson, Tieneke Gedge and Arielle MacDonald in overtime collected the goals for Laurier. All were unassisted.
The Golden Hawks outshot the Gryphs 24-22 and both teams were scoreless on four power plays.
Alexandrea Davidson was in net for the Gryphs while Victoria Kelaiditis was in goal for Laurier.
The Gryphs have two wins and three losses in their preseason with two of the losses coming in overtime.
They’re to complete their preseason with a game against the Western Mustangs at Western Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Gryphs are to host the Waterloo Warriors to open their regular season next Thursday at the Gryphon Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
