
Gryphon hockey women edged by Windsor at home
GUELPH – The Gryphon Centre hasn’t exactly been home sweet home for the Guelph Gryphons in OUA women’s hockey play this season.
A 2-1 loss to the Windsor Lancers on their home ice surface Friday night left the Gryphs winless at home in regular-season play.

The loss was the third at home in league play this season. They also had two losses in three preseason home games, their lone win being a 3-1 victory over the St. Francis Xavier X-Women Sept. 22.
Friday, all the scoring in the game was limited to the second period.
Maggi DeWolf-Russ put Windsor ahead at 4:24 before Tori Verbeek pulled the Gryphs even at 15:19. DeWolf-Russ scored again with the eventual game-winner at 17:40.
Hannah Tait and Meaghan Chittick had assists for the Gryphs while Rylee Hogan assisted on both Windsor goals and Maggie Mitani had one assist.
The Gryphs outshot the Lancers 21-14 and neither team had a power-play goal. The Gryphs killed off four penalties in the first period and had their lone power play in the second.
Martina Fedel had 12 saves in the Guelph net while Kristen Swiatochik had 20 saves for Windsor.
The Lancers (4-2-1-0) move by the Gryphs (3-2-1-1) into second in the West Division. The Gryphs are third.
The Gryphs are to play the East Division-leading Toronto Varsity Blues (5-1-0-0) at Toronto’s Varsity Arena Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
