
Gryphon hockey women hand Western a blanking
LONDON – Martina Fedel stopped all shots fired her way as the Guelph Gryphons recorded their third consecutive victory in OUA women’s hockey play Friday night.
The Gryphs scored three times in the second period on their way to a 4-0 win over the Western Mustangs at Western’s Thompson Arena.

Guelph’s other goal was scored 69 seconds into the first period.
Hannah Tait, Abby Davies, Chihiro Suzuki and Tori Verbeek collected single goals while single assists went to Jaime Magoffin, Verbeek, Suzuki, Maeve Sutherland-Case, Tait and Brielle Caruso.
Both teams went 0-for-3 on their power plays although the Gryphs did score a shorthanded goal.
According to the stats reported for the game, the teams each had nine shots on net.
Fedel picked up the win for the Gryphs while Kaitlyn Booth was in net for the Mustangs.
The Gryphs are second in the West Division at 3-1-1-0 while Western is fourth at 2-2-1-0.
Guelph started its season with a pair of losses, one in overtime, but has responded with three consecutive wins, outscoring its opposition 13-2 in the process.
The Gryphs are to host the Queen’s Gaels (fifth in East Division at 2-2-0-1) Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.
Guelph defeated Queen’s 5-1 at Kingston Oct. 28 for the first win in league play this season.
