Gryphon hockey women, Lamenta blank York Lions
TORONTO – Valerie Lamenta stopped all shots fired her way to pick up the shutout as the Guelph Gryphons blanked the York Lions 4-0 in OUA women’s hockey play Wednesday night at York’s Canlan Ice Sports Centre.
The Gryphs scored three times in the first period and added their final goal into an empty net with 4:13 to go in the third.
Miranda Lantz scored twice for the Gryphs while Madison Melo and Sydney Davison had single goals. Ashlee Lawrence had the lone assists awarded in the match.
Lamenta stopped 28 shots for the shutout.
Lauren Dubie had 21 saves for York.
Both teams were held scoreless on their power plays – York on three and Guelph on five.
The Gryphs move up to third in the league with the win. They’re at 3-1-1-0 while York falls to 1-3-0-0.
The Gryphs are to begin a stretch of four consecutive home games when they host the Western Mustangs (4-0-0-0) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre. They’re also to host the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-2-1-1) Nov. 10 at 2 p.m., Nipissing Lakers (2-2-2-0) Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. and Ryerson Rams (2-1-1-0) Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
