Gryphon hockey women net three in row for victory

WINDSOR – The Guelph Gryphons struck for three consecutive goals in the third period to claim their fifth consecutive road game victory in OUA women’s hockey play with a 4-1 win over the Windsor Lancers Friday night at Windsor’s Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

The Gryphs scored the lone goal of the first period before a scoreless second. Windsor tied the score nine seconds into the third before Guelph went ahead for good just over three minutes later.

Sydnie Miller, Avery Peer, Abby Davies and Rylee Davison each had a goal for the Gryphs while assists went to Alexie Olivier, Davison, Davies, Tori Verbeek and Chihiro Suzuki.

Keanne McKibbin had a power-play goal for Windsor while Jack Latham set up the goal.

The Gryphs outshot Windsor 16-12 while both teams went 1-for-2 on their power plays.

Martina Fedel had 11 saves for Guelph while Kristen Swiatoschik had 13 for Windsor.

The result leaves the Gryphs third in the West Division at 6-2-1-2 and the Lancers second at 7-3-1-0.

The two teams are to play again Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
