Gryphon hockey women to host Toronto in McCaw Cup

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons are to host the Toronto Varsity Blues in next weekend’s McCaw Cup OUA women’s hockey league championship match at the Gryphon Centre.

The Varsity Blues edged the Western Mustangs 2-1 at Western’s Thompson Arena Saturday to claim a 2-1 semifinal series win.

Jessica Robichaud and Julia Szulewska scored the goals for Toronto while assists went to Louie Bieman, Kassie Roache, Stephanie Ayres and Mathilde De Serres.

Sydnee Baker scored a power-play goal for Western with an assist going to April Clark.

The Gryphs and Varsity Blues split their regular-season games with Guelph winning 3-1 at Toronto Nov. 24 and the Varsity Blues winning 1-0 at the Gryphon Centre Feb. 16 in the final game of the regular season for both teams.

Game time Saturday is 2 p.m.
