Gryphon hockey women topple Ontario Tech

OSHAWA – The Guelph Gryphons opened their OUA women’s hockey league’s preseason Saturday with a 4-1 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Ontario Tech’s Campus Ice Centre.

After a scoreless first period, the Gryphs scored twice in each of the final two periods for the victory.

Ontario Tech’s goal came on a power play in the second period.

Rylee Davison fired in a pair of goals for the Gryphs while Gabriele Underwood and Nicole MacKinnon also scored. Getting one assist apiece were Hannah Tait, Tiana Faccio, Madison Melo, Avery Peer and MacKinnon.

Baie Marcantonio scored for Ontario Tech with help from Madeline Schroder.

Alexandrea Davidson had 12 saves in the Guelph net while Zoe McGee and Brooke Vial combined for 27 saves for the hosts.

The Gryphs were scoreless on six power plays while Ontario Tech went 1-for-3.

Next preseason match for the Gryphs is set for Saturday when they’re to play the Waterloo Warriors at Waterloo. Game time is 7 p.m.
