Gryphon hoops men complete unbeaten preseason
TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons completed an unbeaten preseason Friday night with a 94-91 victory over the Ryerson Rams at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Gryphs had to come from behind for the win as they trailed by 10 points early in the third quarter.

The locals scored the first four points of the match and had an 12-point lead late in the opening quarter before the hosts rallied to close the gap to two points (24-22) at the end of the quarter. Ryerson continued its rally to lead 48-43 at halftime. The Gryphs, down 53-43 a minute into the third quarter, trailed 72-71 heading into the final quarter.
The teams traded baskets throughout the final 10 minutes.
Rasheed Weekes had a game-high 28 points for the Gryphs while Malcolm Glanville had 15, Keenan Dowell 13 and Viktor Nausedas 10. Weekes also had nine rebounds and Glanville had eight and Glanville collected six assists.
Tom Dumont had 20 points for Ryerson with Marcus Upshaw getting 18, Tyler Sagl 11 and Kayode Fakomi and Jaaden Lewis 10 apiece. Sagl and Mouhamed Ndiaye each had six rebounds while Upshaw had four assists and four steals.
The Gryphs shot 44 percent on field goals, 21 percent on three-pointers and 67 percent on free throws while Ryerson shot 48 percent on field goals, 38 percent on three-pointers and 77 percent on free throws.
Guelph also had 11 points off turnovers, 17 on second chances and 25 from their bench while the Rams had 19 off turnovers, five on second chances and 37 from their bench.
The Gryphs complete their preseason with three wins in as many outings, all three coming in an eight-day stretch.
Next up for the Gryphs is a home-and-home series with the Windsor Lancers to open their regular season. They’re to play at Windsor Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. and host the Lancers Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.
