Gryphon hoops men drop UPEI in preseason

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons remained undefeated in their OUA men’s basketball preseason as they defeated the UPEI Panthers 98-71 Wednesday night at the Guelph

The Gryphs had four players hit double digits as Guelph native Craig Valeriote led with 16 points while Kieran Naus had 13 and Banky Alade and Tommy Yanchus each netted 10.

Next on the preseason schedule for the Gryphs, who had earlier beaten the Humber College Hawks and Memorial Sea-Hawks, is the House Laughton-Carleton Tournament at Ottawa Oct. 12 to 14.

The Guelph squad also has preseason games against the Mount Royal Cougars of Calgary Oct. 19 at the GGAC, Toronto Varsity Blues Oct. 20 at Woodstock and Cape Breton Capers of Sydney, N.S., Oct. 21 at the GGAC.

The Gryphs are to open their regular season Oct. 27 at home against the Western Mustangs before playing five consecutive road games.
