
Gryphon hoops men edged by McMaster
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons suffered another close loss as they were nipped 83-80 by the McMaster Marauders in OUA men’s basketball play Wednesday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
The Gryphs led by five points with just under four minutes to go in the fourth quarter before being outscored 12-4 the rest of the way.

The loss put an end to Guelph’s three-game winning streak and was their fourth of the regular season. They led in the fourth quarter of each of the last three losses.
The Gryphs led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter Wednesday, but trailed 48-46 at halftime. The hosts rallied to carry a 66-63 lead into the final quarter.
Emmanuel Ansah collected 21 points for the Gryphs while Khalid Ismail had 18 and Jalen Mason and Dezayne Mingo each had 14. Rasheed Weekes had 10 rebounds while Mason and Viktor Nausedas each had four assists and a block. Mason and Mingo each had three steals.
Sefa Otchere led McMaster with 19 points while Khalil Miller had 14, Tyler Garcia had 11 and Mike Demagus had 10. Miller had 13 rebounds, three blocks and three steals while Garcia had four assists.
The Gryphs shot 44 percent on field goals, 29 percent on three-pointers and 73 percent on free throws and also had 40 points in the paint, 17 off turnovers, seven on second chances and 24 from their bench.
The Marauders shot 47 percent on field goals, 17 percent on three-pointers and 86 percent on free throws. They also had 44 points in the paint, 28 off turnovers, 16 on second chances and 21 from their bench.
The result leaves the Gryphs at 3-4 in league play and McMaster at 4-5.
The Gryphs are to close out the 2022 portion of their season with a game against the Western Mustangs (4-4) Saturday at Western’s Alumni Hall. Game time is 8 p.m.
