
Gryphon hoops men fade in loss to Brock
ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons kept the Brock Badgers close for a quarter before fading in a 91-59 loss in OUA men’s basketball play Saturday night at Brock’s Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Gryphs trailed 16-14 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 9-2 run in the final three minutes of the quarter. However, Brock surged to a 44-32 lead at halftime and extended the advantage to 67-47 by the end of the third quarter.

Guelph shot 36 percent on field goals, 19 percent on three-pointers and 64 percent on free throws. The Gryphs also scored 16 points from the paint, five off turnovers, five on second chances and received 26 from their bench.
Brock shot 42 percent on field goals, 37 percent on three-pointers and 79 percent on free throws. The Badgers also scored 34 points from the paint, 22 off turnovers, 21 on second chances and they received 46 from their bench.
Khalid Ismail led the Gryphs with 14 points while Viktor Nausedas had 12, Dylan McFee had 11 and Dezayne Mingo had 10. Jalen Mason grabbed six rebounds and had three steals while Nausedas and Mingo each had a block.
Kascius Small-Martin led Brock with 16 points. Following were Isaiah Bujdoso with 14, Daniel Caldwell with 12 and Jordan Tchuente with 10. Tchuente hauled down 11 rebounds while Bujdoso had five assists, Caldwell had a block and Small-Martin had three steals.
The Gryphs are tied for third in the West Division and 11th overall with the Western Mustangs as both teams have 8-10 records. Brock leads the Central Division and has the league’s best record at 15-3. The Ottawa Gee-Gees are at 15-4.
Top 12 qualify for the playoffs.
The Gryphs have four games to go in their regular season including home games at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (sixth in East Division and tied for 17th overall at 2-16) Friday at 8 p.m., Windsor Lancers (first in West Division and sixth overall at 13-5) in their Senior Night game Saturday at 8 p.m. and Western in their combined Shoot for the Cure game and She’s Got Game game Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
The locals are to complete their regular season against the Lancers at Windsor Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
