Gryphon hoops men nip Humber in preseason opener

ETOBICOKE – The Guelph Gryphons opened their OUA men’s basketball preseason with an 89-86 victory over the Humber College Hawks Tuesday night at the Humber Athletic Centre.

A 13-2 run by the Gryphons at the start of the second quarter keyed their victory. Humber had led 19-18 at the end of the first quarter before the Gryphs rallied for a 46-38 lead at halftime. However, Humber came back in the third quarter and carried a 66-65 lead into the final quarter.

Tommy Yanchus led the Gryphs with 17 points while Malcolm Glanville had 14, Rasheed Weeks 12 and Kieran Naus nine. Naus hauled down 14 rebounds while Glanville had nine, Yanchus had six and Weeks had three.

The Gryphs are to host the Memorial Sea-Hawks of St. John’s, NL, Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
