Gryphon hoops men rally for another victory

GUELPH – For the second time in as many nights the Guelph Gryphons rallied in the fourth quarter for a win in OUA men’s basketball league play at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

Saturday, the Gryphs scored 31 points in the fourth quarter for an 85-79 win over the Waterloo Warriors.

Waterloo led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, 39-31 at halftime and 57-54 at the completion of the third quarter.

Malcolm Glanville connected for 32 points for the Gryphs while Banky Alade had 19, Tommy Yanchus 16 and Rasheed Weekes 15. Alade, the league’s top rebounder, hauled down 23 rebounds and also had four assists and three blocks while Glanville had two steals.

Justin Malnerich topped Waterloo’s scoring list with 27 points while David Ramon Prados had 15, Jeff Baradziej 14 and Nedim Hodzic 12. Hodzic, second in the league in rebounding, had six along with two blocks while Malnerich and Colin Connors each had four assists.

The result leaves the Gryphs at 10-12, same as the McMaster Marauders, and Waterloo at 3-19. Guelph and McMaster are tied for fourth while the Lakehead Thunderwolves sixth at 9-13.

The Gryphs are to complete their regular season this week. They’re to play McMaster at Hamilton Wednesday at 8 p.m. and host the Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday at 3 p.m.
