Gryphon hoops women clout NAIA visitor to stay unbeaten

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons completed an unbeaten run through their OUA women’s basketball preseason schedule by dropping the Viterbo University V-Hawks 95-43 Saturday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Gryphs scored 13 consecutive points from late in the first quarter to midway through the second to take control of the game against the NAIA squad from La Crosse, Wisc.

Guelph was ahead 19-10 at the end of the first quarter, 49-16 at halftime and 71-28 after three quarters of play.

Hanna Pryce led the Gryphs with 18 points while Skyla Minaker had 14, Reece Mungar 12 and Ivana Vujadinovic 10. Minaker, Burke Bechard and Marija Bakoc each grabbed six rebounds while Vujadinovic had five assists and MacKeely Shantz had four steals.

Ambree Schlosser led Viterbo with 11 points in 14 minutes of play while Alyssa Nilssen had seven rebounds and Madison Lindauer had three steals. Viterbo gave 19 players floor time in the game.

The win was the fourth in as many preseason games for the Gryphs and all were played at home.

They’re to open their regular season with an 11 a.m. game against the Queen’s Gaels at Kingston Nov. 1.

Home opener at the GGAC is Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. against the York Lions.
