Gryphon Knafelc OUA women’s soccer’s top West Division rookie

GUELPH – Forward Kate Knafelc of the Guelph Gryphons was named OUA women’s soccer West Division rookie of the year while six of her teammates were named division all-stars.

Knafelc finished her freshman season with five goals and two assists.

Gryphons named West Division first-team all-stars were defender Alyssa Hodgson and striker Victoria Hinchliffe.

Picked to the second team were defender Jacqueline Madogo, midfielders Danielle Sauve and Sayan Ladhani and striker Venessa Mazur.

Other West Division major award winners were Teni Odetoyinbo of the York Lions (most valuable player), Claudia Continenza of McMaster (community service) and Carmine Isacco of York (coach of the year).

The OUA semifinals are set for Saturday at Ottawa with York taking on the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 11 a.m. and the Toronto Varsity Blues playing the Western Mustangs at 2 p.m.

Semifinal winners are to battle in the OUA gold-medal match Sunday at 2 p.m. after the semifinal losers tangle in the bronze-medal match at 11 a.m.
