Gryphon lacrosse men doubled by Brock

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons completed their Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association regular season with a 14-7 loss to the Brock Badgers Saturday at Brock’s Alumni Field.

The Gryphs led 3-2 early in the second quarter before Brock scored three in a row to grab a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

The Badgers led 2-1 at the end of the first period, 5-4 at halftime and 9-5 at the end of the third quarter.

Quinn Stanhope had a hat trick for the Gryphs while Zachery Luis, Alec Simons, Adam Kromer and Mike Berger added single goals. Assists went to Jackson Nishimura, James Short, Thomas Whitty and Paco Jones-Jewell.

Kurtis Woodland collected four goals for Brock while Cree Blakely, Connor Aquanno and Latrell Harris scored twice each. Single goals were netted by Campbell Parker, Grayson Houghton, Tyrus Rehanek and Saul van der Zalm. Blakely assisted on four of the goals while Parker and Alex Pace each had two assists and Aquanno, Houghton and Davis Neal had one each.

Josh Wood made nine saves in the Brock net for the win while Dennis Semenovych had 10 saves in the Gryphon net.

Brock and the Western Mustangs finish the regular season tied for third in the West Division at 9-1 while the Gryphs are third at 6-4. They’re followed by the Toronto Varsity Blues at 4-6, Laurier Golden Hawks at 3-7 and the McMaster Marauders and Laurentian Voyageurs at 2-8.

The Gryphs will host Toronto in a first-round game in the Baggataway Cup playoffs.
