Gryphon lacrosse men downed by Brock Badgers
ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons were held to a single goal in each quarter as they were downed 11-4 by the Brock Badgers in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association Friday night at Brock’s Alumni Field.
The Gryphs never led in the game. They trailed 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 6-2 at halftime and 8-3 at the end of the third quarter.
Alec Simons had a pair of goals for the Gryphs while singletons were netted by Mike Berger and Mitchell Ogilvie. Thomas Whitty and Mark Wilson each had an assist.
Kurtis Woodland and Sam Leclair each had hat tricks for Brock while Connor Brown and William McNabb scored twice each. Nate Braniff had the other goal while assists were given to each of the goal scorers as well as Grayson Houghton, Cree Blakely and Tyrus Rehanek.
Hayden Walsh was tagged with the loss in the Guelph net while Ethan Low picked up the win for Brock.
Brock moves into a tie for first place in the West Division with the Western Mustangs as both have 3-0 records. The Gryphs have been busier as they’re third at 3-3.
The Gryphs are to play the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-1) at Waterloo’s University Stadium Friday night before finishing the regular season with three consecutive home games – Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. against the Laurentian Voyageurs (0-4), Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. against Western and Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. against the Toronto Varsity Blues (1-2).
