Gryphon lacrosse men falter in loss to Brock

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons saw a three-goal lead slip away in the second half as they were edged 9-8 by the Brock Badgers in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association play Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The Gryphs led 5-2 at halftime before Brock cut the gap down to 7-6 by the end of the third quarter.

Zachery Luis led the Gryphs with a four-goal outing while Mike Berger had a pair of goals and Alec Simons and James Short scored once each. Berger also had two assists while Simons had one.

Brock was led by a pair of players who were teammates with the Founders Cup-winning Elora Mohawks during the summer.

Kurtis Woodland had four goals for Brock while Tyrus Rehanek had five assists. Connor Ham scored twice while single goals were netted by Cree Blakely, Alex Pace and Campbell Parker. Blakely also had two assists.

Hayden Walsh was in net for the Gryphs and Josh Wood was Brock’s netminder.

The result leaves the Badgers at 2-0 and the Gryphs at 2-1.

The Gryphs are idle in CUFLA play this week. Their next game is Sept. 28 when they’re to play the Western Mustangs at London.
