Gryphon lacrosse men get Brock in semifinals
PETERBOROUGH – The Guelph Gryphons get a familiar foe in the CUFLA Baggataway Cup semifinals at Trent University Saturday.
The Gryphs are to battle the Brock Badgers for the right to play in Sunday’s championship match.
Guelph had finished regular-season play atop the West Division standings with a 9-1 record while Brock was third at 6-4. The Gryphon regular season included a pair of wins over the Badgers – 11-6 at St. Catharines Sept. 17 and 8-7 in overtime at the Gryphon Soccer Complex Oct. 16.
The two teams also met in last year’s Baggataway Cup final with Brock prevailing 10-9 in overtime.
The Gryphs and Badgers have become regular playoff opponents as this is to be their third postseason meeting in four seasons.
Saturday’s other semifinal is to pit the McGill Redbirds against the Trent Excalibur.
In Friday’s quarter-finals, Brock edged the Bishop’s Gaiters 8-7 and McGill downed the Western Mustangs 13-9.
The semifinal victors are to meet in Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Baggataway Cup championship game.
