
Gryphon lacrosse men score first four, double Laurier
WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons scored the first four goals of the game in a 12-6 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in CUFLA men’s field lacrosse play Tuesday at Waterloo’s University Stadium.
The result lifted the Gryphs into a tie with the Brock Badgers for first in the West Division and those two teams are to meet Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex to complete their regular seasons.

The Gryphs led 5-1 at the end of the first quarter, 8-2 after the second and 10-5 at the end of the third.
Connor Watson led the Gryphs with four goals and an assist while Thomas Whitty had two goals and two assists and Mark Wilson had a goal and three assists. Other goals were scored by Michael Berger, Matthew Stone, Matthew Allen, Bryce Dennis and Ben Doherty. Berger had two assists and Stone, Nolan Schott and Jabe Verbeek each had one.
Aiden Marroni had a goal and an assist for Laurier while Cameron McCusker, Owen Lane, Ben Penny-Perreault, Matthew Darroch and Thomas MacDonald added single goals. Curtis Emery had an assist.
Cameron MacLeod was in net for the Gryphs while Dante Mancini was in net for the Golden Hawks.
Shots on goal were not reported.
Brock and Guelph are tied for first in the West with 4-1 records while Western Mustangs are third at 3-2 and McMaster Marauders fourth at 2-3. Laurier completed its season at 0-6 with the loss to the Gryphs.
The Gryphs and Brock are to play Sunday at 1 p.m. Brock defeated Guelph 10-8 at Brock Oct. 3, but winner of Sunday’s game gets first in the division.
Western is to host McMaster Friday at 8 p.m.
