Gryphon lacrosse women closer, but fall to Laurier, Western again

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons suffered a pair of slim losses in OUA women’s lacrosse play Sunday at Brock University.

The Gryphs were edged 11-9 by the Laurier Golden Hawks and 6-4 by the Western Mustangs.

In both cases the losses were the second of the season to Guelph’s opponents and in both cases the margin of victory was considerably smaller.

The Gryphs had lost 12-2 to Laurier Sept. 16 and 11-2 to Western Sept. 23.

The losses stretch Guelph’s losing streak to five and leave the Gryphs sixth in the 10-team league at 3-6-0. Queen’s Gaels lead at 7-0-0 while Laurier is second at 7-1-0 and Western third at 5-2-0.

The Gryphs have four games left on their regular-season schedule. They’re to play the McMaster Marauders (2-2-0) and Brock Badgers (1-5-0) at Western in London Saturday and the Trent Excalibur (4-2-1) and Queen’s at UOIT in Oshawa Oct. 14.
