Gryphon lacrosse women eighth in championship tournament

OSHAWA – The Guelph Gryphons claimed an eighth-place finish in the OUA women’s lacrosse championship tournament Sunday at Ontario Tech’s Vaso’s Field.

The Gryphs were defeated 10-6 by the McMaster Marauders in the seventh-place game.

Guelph had opened the tournament with a 15-0 win over the York Lions before being trounced 18-1 by the eventual champion Trent Excalibur in games Friday.

Saturday, the Gryphs were dropped 19-3 by the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Trent won Sunday’s gold-medal game 10-7 over the Queen’s Gaels while the Western Mustangs won the bronze-medal game 14-11 over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Laurier took the fifth-place game 16-8 over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
