Gryphon lacrosse women open tournament with setback

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered three goals in the fourth quarter to drop their opening game of the OUA women’s lacrosse championship tournament 6-2 to the Western Mustangs Friday at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Centre.

Western scored first in the game, but the Gryphs tied it before the end of the first quarter. With the lone goal of the second quarter, the Gryphs grabbed a 2-1 lead by halftime. However, Western scored a pair of goals early in the third quarter to shoot ahead for good.

Jillian Jacques and Kirsten Sutter scored the goals for the Gryphs.

Quinn Kolwich had two goals for Western while Timmia Bomberry, Jamie Atkinson, Melissa Green and Lexie Delisle added single goals.

The Gryphs are to complete their round-robin pool play with a game against the Brock Badgers Saturday at 10 a.m.
