Gryphon Lauzon OUA football’s defensive player of week

GUELPH – Rookie linebacker Justin Lauzon of the Guelph Gryphons has been named OUA football’s defensive player of the week for his performance in last weekend’s 53-19 victory over the York Lions.

Lauzon had 3.5 tackles in the game including his first sack as a Gryphon.

He also returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter and that touchdown would end up being the winning TD of the game.

Lauzon has six tackles this season as he had 1½ in the season-opening loss to McMaster and one in the win over Carleton at Ottawa.

He is the third Gryphon to win OUA weekly honours as fellow linebacker Jared Beeksma and returner Clark Barnes were named defensive and special teams players of the game respectively in Week 2.

The Gryphs (2-1) are to tangle with the Waterloo Warriors (2-0) in OUA play Saturday at 1 p.m. at Waterloo’s Warriors Field.
