Gryphon rugby men secure bye in quarter-finals

WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons wrapped up their regular season with a 39-10 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks at Waterloo’s University Stadium.

The win gives the Gryphs a second-place finish in the standings with a 7-1 record while Laurier finishes at 6-2.

Top six qualify for the playoffs with the first- and second-place finishers getting byes in the quarter-finals and they’ll host semifinal matches.

Erich Milne led the Gryphs with three tries Saturday while MacKenzie Kea scored two and Marcello Wainwright and Kolby Francis added one apiece.

Guelph led 22-5 at halftime.

The Gryphs are expected to host a semifinal Nov. 2.
