Gryphon rugby men to face Laurier in semifinals

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons are to tangle with the Laurier Golden Hawks in next weekend’s OUA men’s rugby semifinals.

Date and time of the game are to be announced, but it’s likely to go Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.

The Gryphs defeated Laurier 41-10 to complete their regular season Oct. 20. That game decided second and third in the final standings.

The first-place Queen’s Gaels (8-0) and second-place Gryphs (7-1) received byes in the quarter-finals while third-place Laurier (6-2) downed sixth-place McMaster Marauders (4-4) by a 31-13 score in Saturday’s quarter-finals.

The fourth-place Waterloo Warriors (6-2) scored a 21-5 win over the fifth-place Trent Excalibur (4-4) in the quarter-finals.

Queen’s is to host Waterloo in the other semifinal.

Semifinal winners are to advance to the gold-medal match while semifinal losers will meet in the bronze-medal match.

The medal games are to be played Nov. 11.
