
Gryphon rugby women fourth in national tournament
VICTORIA, B.C. – The Guelph Gryphons finished fourth in the U Sports national university women’s rugby championship tournament after they were handed a 29-7 setback by the Ottawa Gee-Gees in Sunday’s bronze-medal match.
The Gee-Gees scored 24 consecutive points in the match to turn a two-point deficit into the final 22-point margin.

Taylor McKnight scored the try for the Gryphs midway through the first half. Kendra Cousineau’s convert put Guelph ahead.
Ottawa had opened the scoring with a try by Claire Gallagher in the eighth minute.
A try by Talia Hennessy and convert by Gallagher put the Gee-Gees ahead for good in the 36th minute before Gallagher kicked a penalty goal in the final minute of the opening half.
Ketsia Kamba scored two tries for Ottawa in the second half, both converted by Gallagher to wrap up the scoring in the game.
The Quebec champion Laval Rouge et Or claimed the national title with a 22-5 win over the Ontario champion Queen’s Gaels.
UBC Thunderbirds downed the Victoria Vikes 20-15 in an all-Canada West fifth-place game.
