The Gryphs suffered a 17-13 loss to the defending league champion Queen’s Gaels in a preseason match at Guelph’s Varsity Field last weekend.

For the Gryphs, the league’s reigning silver medalists, the preseason match was their first since a 33-17 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the bronze-medal game of the U Sports national championship tournament in Ottawa Nov. 3, 2019.

No university sports were played in the 2020-2021 school year.

Next up for the Gryphs is their home opener against the Brock Badgers Oct. 2 at Guelph’s Varsity Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
