
Gryphon soccer men blank Brock to secure playoff berth
ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons remained undefeated in the OUA men’s soccer league Sunday with a 2-0 victory over the Brock Badgers at Brock’s Alumni Field to clinch a playoff berth.
Top two teams in each of the league’s three divisions will be joined by a pair of wild-card teams in the quarterfinals and the Gryphs are assured of finishing in the top two in the West Division.

The Gryphs scored twice in the first half to defeat the Badgers as Cole Fernandez scored in the eighth minute and Owen McKee tallied in the 21st. Jack Sears picked up an assist.
Carter Osborne had the shutout in net for the Gryphs, his second in two appearances this season. Alexander May was in net for Brock and he stopped a penalty kick by Mitchell Lefebvre in the first half.
The Gryphs outshot Brock 7-5, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on target.
A total of four corner kicks were taken in the game, three by the hosts.
Guelph leads the West Division at 6-0-2 and are followed by the Waterloo Warriors at 4-2-2, Western Mustangs at 3-2-3, Windsor Lancers at 2-4-2, Brock at 2-5-1 and Laurier Golden Hawks at 1-5-2.
The Gryphs are to complete their regular season with a pair of games against Laurier this week. They’re to battle Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at University Stadium in Waterloo.
