Gryphon soccer men capture league’s bronze medals

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons claimed the bronze medals Saturday at the OUA men’s soccer league’s Final Four tournament at York University.

The Gryphs struck for their goal in the first half for a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues at York’s Alumni Field.

Peter Zehdee connected for the game’s lone goal 39 and a half minutes into the contest.

The Gryphs outshot Toronto 5-2 overall and 2-1 on shots that were on goal. They also took two of the three corner kicks taken in the match and both teams were assessed three fouls.

It’s the first medal win in OUA play for the Gryphs since they won the league title in 2016.

The Carleton Ravens won this year’s championship with a 3-0 win over the York Lions in Saturday’s gold-medal game at York.

Carleton scored twice in the first half and once in the second half for the win. Stefan Karajovanovic hit for two of the goals while Quinn Honeyman-Wootton scored the other one.
