Gryphon soccer men fade in second half in loss to Windsor

WINDSOR – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered four goals in the second half as they were handed a 4-1 setback by the Windsor Lancers Sunday at Windsor’s Alumni Field to finish their OUA men’s soccer league’s regular season.

The teams battled scoreless through the first half before Windsor shot ahead with two goals in the first 22 minutes of the second half.

Johnson Amoo scored for Guelph with 17 minutes to play, but Windsor responded with two more goals.

Kyle Ruggaber, Stefan Milidrag, Jamar Redhead and Shawn Hunter scored the goals for the Lancers.

Erik Hermanns was in net for Guelph while Greg Chac picked up the win in net for Windsor.

The Lancers outshot the Gryphs 6-2.

The Gryphs had already secured a second-place finish in the West Division and a bye in this week’s divisional quarter-finals. However, they enter the playoffs with a win, two losses and a tie in their final four games of the regular season.

Windsor secured a playoff berth with the win.

The Gryphs are to host a West semifinal Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. They’ll play either the McMaster Marauders (9-3-4), Western Mustangs (7-5-4) or Windsor (6-6-4).
