Gryphon soccer men hit in extra time to tie Western

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons used a goal in injury time to claim a 1-1 tie with the Western Mustangs in OUA men’s soccer play Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Calvin Witzell scored in extra time for the Gryphs.

Western had taken the early lead on Luca Trivisonno’s goal in the 33rd minute.

Ryan Collins was in net for the tie for the Gryphs while Kody Thomson collected the tie in net for Western.

The Gryphs carried the play in the game, but couldn’t convert it into a win. They outshot the Mustangs 7-2 and also took six corner kicks to two for Western.

The result leaves the Gryphs at 1-0-1 while the tie was the second in as many outings for Western.

The Gryphs are to play the York Lions at York Wednesday night. The Lio0ns are also at 1-0-1.
