Gryphon soccer men hurt Brock in first-half injury time

GUELPH – A goal in injury time at the end of the first half gave the Guelph Gryphons a 1-0 victory over the Brock Badgers in OUA men’s soccer league play Friday night at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Colin Gander connected for the lone goal of the game.

The game was an evenly-fought affair with the Gryphs outshooting the Badgers 5-3 overall and 4-3 in shots on target.

Guelph took six penalty corners, twice as many as Brock.

Svyatoslav Artemenko picked up the shutout in net for the Gryphs while Alexander May was in net for Brock.

The result keeps the Gryphs unbeaten and leaves them atop the West Division at 5-0-2. Waterloo Warriors are second at 4-2-2 and Western Mustangs are third at 3-2-3.

The Gryphs have three games left on their regular season – Sunday at Brock, Wednesday home to Laurier at 8:15 p.m. and Oct. 31 at Laurier at 3:15 p.m.
