Gryphon soccer men take preseason opener
TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons struck for a victory in their OUA men’s soccer preseason opener Thursday night at Toronto’s Varsity Centre.
Fourth-year Gryphon Jace Kotsopoulos struck for the game’s only goal as the Gryphs edged the Toronto Varsity Blues 1-0. Kotsopoulos is hoping to rebound from an injury-plagued 2017 season when injuries limited him to 10 games. However, he scored 10 goals last season.
The Gryphs will head to Montreal this weekend to complete their preseason with three games in three days as they’re to play the Carleton Ravens Sunday afternoon, Montreal Carabins Monday afternoon and Concordia Stingers Tuesday morning.
The Gryphs are to open their regular season with a pair of home games next weekend as they’re to host the Windsor Lancers Saturday and the Western Mustangs Sunday. Both games carry 3:15 p.m. starting times.
Guelph entered last season as the defending league champions, but finished third in the West Division at 11-3-2 and were ousted from the playoffs with a 1-0 loss to the second-place McMaster Marauders in the league quarter-finals.
