Gryphon soccer men’s win streak halted by McMaster

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons saw their win streak in OUA men’s soccer play end at seven games as they were handed a 3-1 setback by the McMaster Marauders Sunday at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium.

The loss was the first of September for the Gryphs.

The Marauders won with two goals late in the second half as the teams had been tied 1-1 at halftime.

Antonio Sereno hit for the game-winner for McMaster in the 89th minute while Robert Tamale added an insurance goal a minute later.

Yunus Mollayev had opened the scoring for McMaster in the 15th minute.

Youssef Zaghloul connected for the Gryphs in the 32nd minute.

Tristan Joyce picked up the win in net for McMaster while Ryan Collins was charged with the loss for the Gryphs.

Guelph took 10 shots in the game while McMaster took six.

The Gryphs lead the West Division at 8-2-1 while McMaster (5-3-3) is in a three-way tie for fourth with the Western Mustangs (5-3-3) and Windsor Lancers (5-4-3).

The Gryphs are to host the third-place Waterloo Warriors (6-4-1) Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
