Gryphon soccer women blank Algoma
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons scored in the opening minute of the match on their way to a 7-0 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds in OUA women’s soccer league play Saturday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
The Gryphs dominated the game, taking all 19 shots taken in the match. Of those, 11 reached the net.
Brooke Davidson had the clean sheet for the Gryphs.
Guelph also had all 13 corner kicks awarded during the match.
Danielle Sauve scored the game’s first goal 49 seconds into the game. It was her first of two goals in the match while Tori Hinchliffe also scored twice. Single goals were added by Sydney Johnson, Haileigh Lochhead and Kaylin Twardowski. Johnson had assists on the first two goals while Jacqueline Madogo also had an assist.
The win was Guelph’s fourth consecutive shutout victory.
The Gryphs lead the West Division at 5-0-2 while Algoma is ninth at 0-4-1.
The two teams are to play again Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
