Gryphon soccer women clout Windsor

WINDSOR – The Guelph Gryphons showed a little firepower as they finished their OUA women’s soccer league’s regular season with a 5-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers Sunday at Windsor’s Alumni Field.

The Gryphs scored twice in the first half and three times in the second.

Mia Cadieux struck for a pair of goals for Guelph while Danielle Sauve, Victoria Hinchliffe and Julie Karn added one apiece.

Brooke Davidson made three saves in the Guelph net for her third clean sheet of the season.

Kristina Brooks was in net for Windsor.

Hinchliffe finished the season with 12 goals, third in league play, while goalkeeper Liz Brenneman didn’t allow a goal all season. She had nine shutouts.

The Gryphs finish first in the West Division at 12-1-3 and were followed by the York Lions (10-4-2) and Western Mustangs (9-2-5).

Guelph will get a bye in the West quarter-finals and will host a divisional semifinal Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
