Gryphon soccer women defeated by late goal

LONDON – The Guelph Gryphons suffered their first loss of the OUA women’s soccer season Sunday when they were edged 1-0 by the Western Mustangs at Mustangs Field.

Maddy Skinner scored the game’s only goal in injury time.

The Gryphs outshot Western 9-7 including a 6-3 margin in shots on goal. The Gryphs took all five shots taken in the first half.

Both teams had a pair of corner kicks.

Samantha St. Croix had six saves for the clean sheet for Western. Brooke Davidson had two saves for the Gryphs.

The result leaves Western first in the six-team West Division at 3-1-0 while the Gryphs are second at 2-1-1.

The Gryphs have a pair of games against the Waterloo Warriors (0-1-1) this week. They’re to play at Warriors Field Wednesday at 6 p.m. and at the Gryphon Soccer Complex Friday at 6 p.m.
