Gryphon soccer women in deadlock with York
TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons needed a late goal from Tori Hinchliffe to claim a tie with the York Lions in OUA women’s soccer league play Wednesday night at York’s Alumni Field.
The teams battled scoreless for almost 70 minutes before Kalifornia Mitchell opened the scoring for York.
Hinchliffe pulled the Gryphs even seven and a half minutes later with a goal set up by Katya Tarasoff.
The game saw each team carry the play for a half. The Gryphs outshot the Lions 9-2 in the first half and they also took all five corner kicks awarded that half.
The Lions rallied in the second half, outshooting the Gryphs 9-4 and taking the only corner kick of the half.
The result leaves the Gryphs third in the West Division at 1-0-2 and York tied for fourth at 1-1-1. The Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders are tied for the lead with 2-0-0 records.
The Gryphs are to host the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-2-0) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
