Gryphon soccer women in scoreless tie with Brock

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons and Brock Badgers battled to a scoreless draw in OUA women’s soccer play Friday at Brock’s Alumni Field.

Guelph goalkeeper Brooke Davidson was credited with four saves to get the tie for the Gryphs while Marilena Spagnolo had nine saves for Brock.

The tie extended Guelph’s unbeaten streak to six games as they have three wins and three ties in that stretch.

The tie leaves the Gryphs at 7-1-4 and Brock at 4-3-4. Guelph is second in the West Division, trailing only the Western Mustangs (9-0-3), while Brock is fifth. The Gryphs have clinched a playoff berth, but only Western has secured a top-two finish. Top six qualify for the playoffs and top two get byes in the first round.

The Gryphs have two games left on their regular-season schedule. They’re to host the third-place McMaster Marauders (7-4-1) Friday at 6 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and play the sixth-place Waterloo Warriors (3-4-5) at Waterloo’s Warrior Field Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.
