Gryphon soccer women knocked out of playoffs

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons saw their OUA women’s soccer season come to an end Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex when they were edged 2-1 by the McMaster Marauders in a league quarter-final playoff match.

Stephanie Roberts scored the game-winner for McMaster in the third minute of stoppage time.

McMaster’s Amy Froome connected for the only goal of the first half while Julie Karn pulled the defending OUA-champion Gryphs even in the 78th minute.

The game was an even affair with both teams taking one shot in the first half and four in the second.

The Marauders advance to next weekend’s OUA Final Four tournament where they’ll be joined by the Western Mustangs, Queen’s Gaels and Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Western edged the York Lions 3-2, Queen’s dropped the Nipissing Lakers 5-1 and Ottawa shut out the Toronto Varsity Blues 2-0.
