
Gryphon soccer women return home for victory
GUELPH – It was home sweet home for the Guelph Gryphons as they scored twice in the second half to drop the Windsor Lancers 4-1 in OUA women’s soccer play Sunday afternoon at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
The teams had opened their seasons with a scoreless tie Wednesday at Windsor.

Sunday, the Gryphs led 2-1 at halftime before Olivia Rizakos scored the two second-half goals to give her a hat trick for the game. Kate Knafelc had the other goal while Sydney Johnson had the only assist handed out in the game.
Kailyn Robertson tallied for Windsor, her goal coming with a minute left in the first half and about a minute and a half after Knafelc’s goal.
The Gryphs controlled play as they outshot Windsor 19-6 including 15-3 on shots on goal.
The hosts also took eight of the 11 corner kicks awarded in the game.
Brooke Davidson had two saves in the Guelph net while Lauren Gellner had 11 for the Lancers.
This week’s opponent for the Gryphs is to be the Western Mustangs. They’re to play Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mustangs Field.
