Gryphon soccer women slip by Waterloo in home opener
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons made it two one-goal victories in as many days as they edged the Waterloo Warriors 1-0 in their OUA women’s soccer league home opener Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
Samantha Dickson scored the lone goal of the game in the 51st minute on an unassisted effort.
The Gryphs and Brooke Davidson preserved the shutout despite being a player down the final 37 minutes after Danielle Sauve was shown a red card.
The hosts dominated play as they outshot Waterloo 11-3 and both teams hit the net in all but one of their shots.
Morgan Berg was busy in the Waterloo goal as she turned nine shots away including six in the second half.
Guelph completes the opening weekend with two wins in two days. The Gryphs are to play the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-1-0) at Waterloo’s University Stadium Wednesday at 1 p.m. and they’re to host the Brock Badgers (0-0-2) Friday at 6 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
