Gryphon soccer women top Concordia, too
MONTREAL – The Guelph Gryphons completed their preseason Tuesday with a 2-1 win over the Concordia Stingers.
Katya Tarasoff and Victoria Hinchliffe connected for a goal apiece for the Gryphs.
The win gave the Gryphs a record of two wins and a loss in their preseason – they lost 2-0 to the UQAM Citadins Monday.
The Gryphs are to host the Windsor Lancers to open their OUA regular season Friday at 6:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
The Lancers collected a win and a loss in their preseason as they edged the Trent Excalibur 1-0 and lost 3-1 to the UOIT Ridgebacks.
The Gryphs had a win and a tie in their two meetings with the Windsor Lancers last year on their way to their first ever OUA championship. The teams fought to a scoreless tie in their season opener at Windsor and the Gryphs wrapped up the regular season with a 4-2 victory at home before scoring three consecutive wins, the last two in penalty kicks, to claim the title.
Guelph had finished last year’s regular season second in the West Division at 10-4-2 while the Lancers were eighth at 3-5-8.
