Gryphon softball women get second victory of year
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons scored their second win of the Ontario University Softball season Saturday when they defeated the McMaster Marauders 11-8 in the first game of a doubleheader on the U of G campus.
The Gryphs, though, suffered a 12-9 loss to McMaster in the second game of the twinbill.
The Gryphs were also swept in two other doubleheaders at home as they lost 8-0 and 13-4 to the Brock Badgers, last year’s bronze medalists, Sunday and 10-3 and 10-1 to the defending league champions Western Mustangs Friday.
Western leads the West Division at 12-0 while Brock is second at 12-2. They’re followed by the Laurier Golden Hawks at 7-5, McMaster at 6-8, Waterloo Warriors at 5-7, Windsor Lancers at 3-9 and the Gryphs at 2-14.
The Gryphs have two doubleheaders left on their regular season schedule. They’re off the Thanksgiving weekend and then return to play Western in London Oct. 14 and the Lancers at Windsor Oct. 16.
