Gryphon teams get three wins in Ontario Cup
GUELPH – The win by the Guelph Gryphons Red over King United in girls’ under-18 play at the Gryphon Soccer Complex was one of three wins by Guelph squads in Ontario Cup play last weekend.
The Gryphs Red edged King United 2-1 in penalty kicks after the teams had finished regulation time tied 1-1. Both teams scored in the final 10 minutes of regulation time, a goal by the hosts with about two minutes to go forced penalty kicks.
In boys’ under-16 tier 1 play, the Gryphons Red split their three games at North York as they lost 2-1 to the North York Cosmos, tied Cumberland Cobras Academy 1-1 and blanked North York Spartacus 2-0.
The Gryphons Red had a win and two losses in girls’ under-16 play at Windsor. The Guelph side defeated Kitchener Spirit 5-1 and lost 2-1 to Burlington Bayhawks and 6-0 to King City Royals.
In women under-21 play at Centennial Bowl, Guelph Gryphons Black were dropped 12-0 by Oshawa Kicks.
In boys’ under-15 tier 1 play at Richmond Hill, Rockwood FC lost 6-1 to North Mississauga Panthers, 4-2 to West Toronto United and 2-0 to Richmond Hill Raiders.
